Welcome to the Sally Morgan Library
Welcome to Country and welcome to the new Sally Morgan Library! Our mission is to highlight the contributions of our First Nations authors as well as authors of all race and backgrounds.
We wish to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of this region, the Whadjuk People of the Noongar Nations and their continuing connection to the land, waters and community. We pay respect to Elders, past, present and emerging.
We are proud and privileged to name our new library after the esteemed Western Australian author, dramatist and artist Sally Morgan.
Her first book My Place told the story of her family's past, which reflected Australia's past, which many people did not know at that time. It is a story of children taken from their mothers, slavery, abuse and fear because their skin was a different colour.
My Place won many awards including the Human Rights and Equal Opportunities Commission Award in 1987.
Today Sally Morgan is the director at the Centre of Indigenous History and the Arts at the University of WA.
Sally has written many books for both adults and children, all of which we have in our collection. Through the generous assistance of the Art Gallery of WA, the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery and private owners, our library will have a revolving display of artwork by Sally Morgan as well as other indigenous artists.
We are located in Mandoon country. The address is:
